From lump to mug in four messy steps

Throw

A lump of local clay meets Pip’s wheel. Sometimes it wins.

Trim

Wal shaves the feet and pulls a handle thick enough for four fingers.

Glaze

Dipped in colours we mix ourselves. Results vary. Wildly.

Fire

Two days in the kiln at 1240°C. Then we hold our breath.

A note from the studio

Dear whoever’s holding this mug,

We’re Wal and Pip — a grandpa and his grand-niece sharing one garage, one wheel and one very temperamental kiln. Wal has been throwing pots since 1974. Pip mixes the glazes and writes the bad puns.

We stopped chasing perfectly straight a long time ago. The lean is where the personality lives. Hope yours makes your mornings a bit better.
